Farewell

The other day, along with 3,000 over other staffs, I attended the farewell cocktail for one of our management officials. What he said that night offered a glimpse into the life of a high profile, high ranking officials. Albeit the perks and benefits, it ain't as glory and easy as it seemed.

We often think that the higher one goes, the easier his / her life would be. But for the first time, that night, we were told about the tough decisions that he had to make in the earlier years of business where profits were literally non-existent. How he had to cut projects when there were insufficient funds. How he had to speak to numerous bankers for loan extension. How his family had to cancel numerous holidays to cater to his schedule etc etc.

Behind the mask of a highly confident and highly decisive front, he's a man torn between huge responsibilities at work and at home. Listening to him, one can't help but wonder how he balance his life at work and at home annnnnnnd be so successful at both.

Although I have only presented once to him... I will always remember him as a highly intelligent man with extremely good business sense and yes decisive!

So... what is the moral of the story to me?

There are... and always will be ups and downs in life and it's perfectly ok to feel scared, pressured and unsure... Just remember to be persistent, confident and focused to be able to sail through. Remember... every dog has its day.

Note: Today is a greeeeaaaaattttttt day cos... "ka-ching"... hehehehe...
