There was a farewell cum Christmas party after work today at Sooka Sentral. Unfortunately, the jam was so horrendous that when I reached Sooka it was close to 7.30pm already. The initial plan was to stay for awhile before leaving for my dentist appointment at 8pm in Bangsar. Since it was too near my appointment time, I decided to just drop my colleague off and detoured to Bangsar instead.
As usual, I had my dinner alone at the "kopitiam" downstairs before visiting my dentist. Anticipating a long wait, I was surprised that I was the only one there waiting for my turn. What a pleasant surprise indeed.
This time round Dr. how took a look at my teeth and said "Good!" out loud tho' I wasn't really sure what was so good about my progress. First the gaps are still highly visible. Secondly, I didn't think my bite improved. So anyway, today he changed both the top and bottom wires and added a 12-loop rubber band for my bottom teeth. All was fine but he also added a little clump of clay at the end of the bottom teeth bracket that when I bite, I end up biting into that clump of clay!
I asked him if it was ok since I'm biting into it and guess what? He said he doesn't know if it'll be ok but that I will just have to try to be careful! Nonsense maximum I tell you! Somehow I no longer dread dentist visits... cos I absolutely just can't wait to get it done and over with!!!
Thereafter he took several shots of my teeth. Supposed he wanted to document my progress la. Really don't know. My dentist is a genius and only he himself can understand what he's trying to do with my teeth!
And before I left, I bought 2 toothbrush at 19 bucks! Why? Don't know la. Saja wanted to buy toothbrush. New year, new brush! Sounds "Ong"! Hahahahahaha...

Hello
It's been ages since I last logged in to Blogger. Been so busy and stressed out with so many things. Suffice to say that life has been good and productive. Definitely more on this later. Now that I've got an iPad, blogging should be instantaneous! Hehehehe...

Choked to Death
Yesterday, I saw on my uncle's Facebook post that his mother (my step-grandmother) fell down, hurt her head and had to get stitches. So I SMS-ed my mom to tell her the news and after work, fetched both my parents to visit my grandma. While we were there, dinner was ready (uncle's gf cooked) and hence we told her to go ahead and have dinner while we entertain ourselves in the living room.
All was fine until we heard her coughed several times. I went back into the dining room to check on her and found her drinking water. Asked her if she was OK and she nodded. But then she was coughing, so my uncle's gf and I quickly got her a bowl to get her to spit out whatever that's choking her. Nothing came out and she waved that she was OK. So I patted her back and went back into the living room.
After awhile, we heard a LOUD wheezing sound and uncle's gf talking a lot louder and more urgently asking her to "spit it out, spit of out"! When I went back to the dining room, she was already gasping for breathe and to my horror, I saw her eyes rolling into the back of her head!!! I yelled for my parents and they came rushing in! My father used his finger and dug out a lump of rice that she had difficulty swallowing along with her dentures!!! Only after that she was able to breathe normally again!
I thought I was OK but little did I know, I was pretty shaken and traumatized by the whole ordeal. That night, I could barely sleep. The minute I closed my eyes, image of her and her eyes rolling into the back of her head appeared! It was only then that I realized she could have just choked to death there and then because of that small spoon of rice!!!
Life is indeed fragile and unpredictable! Time waits for no man, so remember to cherish the time you have with your loved ones. No point regretting later for then it'd all be too late... :(

Salutations
Today... wait a minute, it's 2.30am!!! So ahem, yesterday I attended a wedding dinner at Nikko Hotel. It was my husband's father's brother's daughter's wedding!!! Makes sense?
My husband's father is my father-in-law. N his brother in turn is my "ah jiek" and because he's the youngest, we had to call him "ber jiek"!
Now the thing is... I ish not Hokkien!!! Greeting each n every one of the elders is a REAL challenge!!! And after a while, I just got all mixed up as to who to call "jiek, jim, gu, kim, pek, gor" and more! Not to mention "tua, di, sa, see etc etc down to ber" in front of their 'titles'!!!
Why can't it be like before where all male elders are called uncle and all female elders are called auntie!!! Wahlau!!! Confused max!!!
And oh... everyone around seemed to have kids... I've been called "ber jim", "ber kim" etc etc!!! Wanna cryyyyyyy!!! Makes me feel so old!!! And it doesn't help with the fact that the dinner we attended... the groom's 23 y.o. and the bride's only 21 y.o!!! I'm a decade older than the bride!!! No wonder I feel so old!!!

The 3 Phases
Divorces usually happen at one of the following 3 phases; according to a psychiatrist I met recently at a training:
1st Year
When couples officially live together as husband and wife with new sets of responsibilities and commitments. Some find that they share very different values or outlook in life vs. that of their partner. Not to mention financial-related opinions too on when to share, when to split and who to pay etc.
1st Child
When all energy, time and attention is devoted to the only child with none to spare the spouse. Couples face issues like lack of intimacy (too tired, no time, not in the mood etc) or lack of communication (nothing to talk about aside from the child). This is the time, where couples sometimes grow out of love.
Empty Nest
Parents who are so used to communicating with one another via their kids often find that they don't know who their spouse is anymore when their kids are old enough to leave home to start their own life / family. Suddenly, the person who is supposedly the dearest become somewhat a stranger.
Yesterday, someone from my inner circle confided that she is planning for a divorce. She got married 3 years ago and now has a 1 year old son. Her stories about how they feel out of love were exactly as per what the psychiatrist said! It happened between the 1st year and the year she had her 1st child!
It was so heart breaking to hear of people contemplating divorces for whatever reasons. And yet these things happen cos we sometimes take things for granted. Perhaps it's good to remind oneself that just becos one is married, it doesn't mean that one can stop working on the relationship!!!

Caught Off Guard!
Crazy day today! Attended a simulation workshop where I was supposedly the MD of a Hospital tasked to turn around the business via convergence of existing business units and expansion into new areas of opportunities.
Super tight schedule and we were even assigned an "assistant" each who'll remind us of our meetings with COO, CEO and Board of Directors (BOD)! And if that wasn't enough, they even had psychiatrists observing us in all our one to one meetings with COO and CEO as well as our presentation to the BOD! Plus, everything's captured on video for our personal reflection tomorrow with the psychiatrist!!!
Halfway through the preparation of our plans, I was "summoned" to meet 2 "reporters" who were there to interrogate me about a patient who turned PINK after drinking the prescribed cough mixture by our hospital! I was expected to provide an official statement there and then and these "reporters" even came with an audio recording device to record my statement!!!
Then out of the blue, my "assistant" reminded me of my meeting with the COO. And this happened nearly immediately after we got our brief i.e. no time to even finish reading up!!! And the biggest mistake I did was not checking with my "assistant" on the org. structure of the hospital and it's subsidiaries!!! Where I came from, a COO is the 2nd in command after CEO but here... this COO supposedly reports to me but was secretly eyeing my seat!!! The meeting was disastrous and I had to cut it short!!!
Then just as I began to deep dive into our plans, my CEO sent me a nasty email asking me to sort out a bad publicity from a patient who died from wrong prescriptions! I was whisked away to a corner with laptop; away from my team to draft a press release to address the negative publicity!!!
Just when I thought there were no more surprises, came my meeting with the CEO this time round! Luckily, we had slightly more time to prepare and the subject of discussion; strategic long term plans that I have in mind for the hospital was an area of my functional expertise! Again, the psychiatrist was also present and I was sweating profusely!
The last meeting of the day was the presentation of our plans to the BOD and boy were we bashed to the max!!! The day was supposed to end 5 sharp but thanks to the severe thrashings from the BOD, both teams had to stay back till 10.30pm at night to polish our decks!!! Why? Cos the final round of presentation to the BOD along with our real-life senior management team will be tomorrow at 10am SHARP!!!
I'VE BEEN CAUGHT OFF GUARD NUMEROUS TIMES TODAY!!! AND I AM SO TIRED AND EXHAUSTED AND BRAIN DEAD!!! HELPPPPP!!!

Passive Readers?
2 weeks ago, I changed my blog settings from Public to Private thinking that since no one reads my blog anyway, I might as well keep it as "for my eyes only".
But out of the blue, friends started asking why they can't view it anymore. So weird la... I never knew you guys read my blog!
So hor... if you are reading this, do drop me a comment and say hello ok!!! Tenkiu tenkiu.

While the Hubby was snoring lightly in the room, I set out to work on the decks due on Monday. I could've done it in the day but noooooo I had to procrastinate! I had to spend my Friday and Saturday like how I usually spend it with my Hubby.
They say time passes by quickly when one is having fun!!! But in my case, it zoomed past cos' I was busy procrastinating!!!
Anyway, I think it's 60% complete now. Would've tried to complete the 40% if it wasn't because I could not connect to the Internet!!! Fcuk technology!!! They always fail you at times when you need them most!!! Anyway it's 7am now. Time to ZZZzzz!!!
But before that, am so happy that Hubby planned a short getaway to Singapore next weekend!!! Flights booked! Hotel booked; super nice 5-star too!!! Resort World Tickets booked!!! Yippieeeeeeee!!!

Auntie No More
To be honest, I have been letting myself go ever since I got married. Prior to the wedding, I have facials every 2 weeks, ampoules 3 times a week, watch my diet, go for manicure n pedicure, trim and treat my hair... and a whole long list of vanity stuffs.
But then after the wedding, it is just so easy to get comfortable and let loose. I am now 3kg heavier than during my wedding. I can't remember when was the last time I did something to my hair nor the last time I had facial. Forget manicure an pedicure cos' I stopped going out altogether.
Every other week, we have to rush back to our weekend home. Then when I'm home, I have to sweep la mop la disinfect la wash dishes la and the list just goes on and on. I usually try to finish the heavier chores on Friday nights so that we can chillax on Saturdays and Sundays.
And the thing is that, when you're so comfortable in settling down in a routine, it's really really easy to let loose! Hb has never complaint before but then I thought I really ought to like take care of myself. Afterall it's not as though I'm an old auntie or anything like that. So why behave like one right?
So ya...
I will go get a nice haircut and rebond this wild mane of mine.
I will start watching my diet.
I will put on a bit more effort on my make up.
I will not wear my pyjamas every weekend just becos' I'm in KS.
I will start my facial regime again.
I will be pretty again!!! I will and I must!!! WTF man!!!
Watch me do it! :-)

India
There's a short holiday coming up with Independence Day round the corner. I happily told my husband about it and casually asked if he wants to go to Singapore. The hidden agenda was to try to get my hands on the all new iPhone 4! But hehehe, I didn't tell my husband that.
Out of the blue, he said "Let's go INDIA!" I honestly didn't see that coming and my first reaction was "ngeh???" followed by laughter. "Why India??? Go smell cow dung meh???" (I know la right, so bad to say that bout India). Then he continued by saying that it's a place we've both not been to before and that how it could potentially be quite an exciting short trip!
And so it was down to 2 choices. Mumbai or Delhi. Of the 2, I only know Delhi for their oh so famous Taj Mahal!!! But Hb's saying Mumbai. So er, I also dunno. Ever since I watched S.l.u.m.d.o.g M.i.l.l.i.o.n.a.i.r.e, I have this negative perception bout India in general so we'll see. :-)

Mesyuarat
I am so tired.
Yesterday morning started with no water supply (water supply was turned off for dunno what maintenance work). I had to brush my teeth with drinking water. Wanted to "pang sai" too but since no water, had to rush to office to do it instead.
At work, I had a full day of diarrhoea in between meetings. I was rushing to get home cos' the stomachache was getting a little unbearable. But FML, when I left the car park, it started raining cats and dogs!!! Needless to say I was stuck in bad traffic jam for over an hour!
But that was not it. All the umbrellas in my car miraculously disappeared!!! Lucky thing my mom came to my rescue with 2 umbrellas in hand; one to be kept in the car, the other to shield me from the rain; albeit only for a few steps.
That night, I was so tired that I slept around 9pm. But then I suddenly got up at 1am and couldn't get back to sleep until about 2.30am so I felt like my rest was kinda interrupted.
This morning I had an early meeting to attend. When my alarm rang, I got out of bed with a terrible backache! The backache persisted throughout the day. And off all days, I had to go to our other office building in Sentral for a meeting. Since it was raining, decided to take the Putra instead of driving but my goodness!!! The walk from the station to the meeting venue was so far!!! I was in so much pain lugging my laptop bag; walking in my heels!!! But after the meeting, I had to go back to office (again, the same long walk with my laptop and in my heels) to attend yet another 2 more meetings.
By the end of the last meeting at 8pm, I was thoroughly exhausted with a long list of emails to attend to!!! Someone mentioned somewhere before that if productivity is measured by the number of meetings one has in a day, then he/she is ultra productive! If such, I surely am productive lor!
Unfortunately, it doesn't work out that way. While meetings are important to thrash out key decision points, meetings with no agenda or conclusions or actionable points are of absolute waste of time! And I especially hate it when I have too many to attend in a day cos' that would mean a huge backlog to clear!!!
So anyway I digressed. At the start of this post, I had wanted to establish the correlation of diarrhoea with backache since I had one after another. But I guess, this is a non-conclusive post after-all... just like the numerous meetings I attended today! :p

Weekly Routine
The other day a friend mentioned that he drove an hour to eat seafood in KS. Then he lamented bout how stupid and silly it was to brave through small windy roads just to get to KS.
It has never occurred to me how far KS was from KL. My dear Hubby travels every single Friday from KS to KL to fetch me back to KS. And then to fetch me back to KL every single Sunday. Our journey takes 1 1/2 hours each time. So imagine... for me to get back to my weekend home, my Hb has to drive 3 full hours every single week!!! But he has never once complaint! My Hb is such a darling!!! Thanks to my friend, I realized how lucky I am and I felt oh so lurved... :D
The more I think of it, the more I think the decision to buy a house in Setia Alam's a right one. It's the perfect mid point between KL and KS. Only 45min to KS and lesser amount of time to KL. Plus, we'll get to see each other everyday!
Life is beautiful! :-)

Strengths Finder
Today I attended a workshop that was highly interesting and paradigm shifting. Thought I should reflect what I've learned here for my own future reference.
Prior to the workshop, we were each given a unique password that allowed us to take the S.t.r.e.n.g.t.h.s F.i.n.d.e.r test online. I for one am often skeptical of tests like these. Cos' come on, how accurate can it be if all you do is answer several questions? But when the test results came back, I was "shocked". Firstly, we had to answer not just several questions but 180 questions in total! Each question has 2 complete opposite statements. One would need to choose the statement that best describes him/her within 20 seconds! After that, a report is generated with your Top 5 Strengths Themes. And mine are as follows:

The day before yesterday; at my weekend home back in KS, I had this really close encounter with a bigass lizard! It happened when I was in the loo. When I got up to flush, I saw this huge lizard on the toilet seat staring at me in shock for several seconds before scrambling to scoot out of sight. The lizard was so fat and gigantic that I think I was more afraid of it than it was of me. Worst still, I think I may have sat on it without realizing!!!
What happened next was brutal. I grabbed hold of a can of "Sheltox" and sprayed at it until it fell on the floor. Then continued spraying (and nearly killed myself in the process) and locked the toilet door.
15min later...
I saw the tail first. Then looked everywhere only to find the "deflated" lizard struggling to breathe at the corner of the bathroom. Wasting no time, I picked it up with a bundle of tissues and flushed it down the loo!!! Boy, was that satisfying!!!
I hate lizards! They leave messy poo everywhere!!! So there, goodbye lizzy!

Defects Form
I am truly a master procrastinator. I can't believe I put of submitting the defects form for K.u.c.h.a.i A.v.e.n.u.e for close to 3 months! If it wasn't cos' my parents lectured me, I would've still taken my own sweet time. Tsk tsk tsk, quite the hopeless.
Prior to keys collection, I had to pay 6 months worth of maintenance fee and deposits for electricity and water bill which I promptly did on 07-May-2010. Thereafter, an appointment has to be made for keys collection. I collected the keys to my condo on 11-June-2010. But then there's really no use cos' for as long as CF is not obtained, renovation cannot begin. It was during that period that home owners are supposed to inspect the house properly and submit the defects form.
In my mind, it was ok to delay la, CF not obtained yet what. But "timji" on 01-August-2010, I got a letter from the developer stating that the CF is now obtained. And that got me scrambling to submit my defects form after my parents lectured me in M-16 mode. So ok lor, today I took a day off work to properly go through the unit for possible defects with my parents.
Lucky thing, the defects were fairly minimal; I think. And upon checking with condo management, was told we can proceed with our kitchen and yard reno as it doesn't affect the rest of the defects-affected area. Here's the list of defects I submitted:
And oh, collected the access cards today too. Tomorrow onwards, one will need an access card before they can use the lift. There are another 2 points - think the lift lobby on my floor and to the car park. Which reminds me, I can't even remember my car park lot no. (better find out before my parents lecture me again!).

- Wavy wall with some part protruding and some part with paints falling off
- Skirting for the entire house not nailed in, leaving huge gaps between walls & the skirting

- Master bedroom toilet bowl leaks when flushed
- Hose for the 2nd bathroom connecting the water heater was missing
- Window handles for the 3rd bedroom was missing

A Place Called Home
Unlike most couples with "normal" relationships, Hb and I have been in semi-LDR ever since we started our courtship. So while it took us 12 years of courtship before we tied the knot, in actual fact our courtship was only 5 years ++ if we discount the days we spent apart. But yala, quality over quantity! So anyway, even after we got married, we continued living apart on weekdays due to our work commitments. This post documents our journey in making ourselves a nesting place... a place we can both call home.
3 years ago; I bought a service residence called Kuchai Avenue. It was supposed to be ready early 2010 but was delayed and hence our plan of making it our weekday home too was affected. The only consolation is perhaps the escalating prices over the years that saw the property increase over 35% in value. The market rental rate too was pretty high at RM1,200 for a basic unit. At that rental rate, it is more than enough to cover my monthly installment and maintenance so the decision to rent it out was an easy one.
Since Hb has his own home in KS all to himself (his parents lived 2 min away), we decided to make it our weekend home. In our quest to change the bachelor pad into a homely home, we embarked on a home improvement project that lasted close to 6 months where we changed every single piece of furniture! The project was truly a FUN one that somewhat strengthened our bond as husband and wife for it heightened our anticipation of going home every week. I leave office 6 sharp every Friday and Hb will already be waiting for me at my parents home to fetch me back. Though tiring, this has been our routine for the past 7 months.
In the same period also, Hb and I have been hunting high and low for a landed property with my parents & brother as we intended to get 2 units in the same garden. So one fine day, all of us went to Setia Alam with the intention of checking out a sub-sale unit which was newly completed with CF but not occupied yet. Unfortunately, there was only 1 unit where we liked. On our way back, we stopped by the Setia Alam Welcome Center and looked at the model of a previously sold-out soft launch. Coincidentally, there were 2 units available due to loan rejections and both units are on the same row; 6 houses apart. To cut the long story short, that was how we ended up placing the deposits for both units!
And last week was truly an EXCELLENT week! Loan for the landed property was approved and CF for the service residence was finally out after months of waiting! Definitely more on this later. :-)

Jackal & Hyde
Yesterday I went back for my monthly appointment with my dentist. The thing is, I felt that my dentist is no longer as personable and nice and gentle as before. You see... my dentist is one of those who's who in the errrr... dentistry industry. The minute you step into his clinic, you'll see his certifications pasted on nearly every inch of the walls and trophies decorating his numerous cabinets and shelves.
He used to be pretty punctual in meeting his appointment time but the past few months, I had to wait over an hour past my scheduled appointment. And my appointments are nearly always rescheduled cos he has to go overseas to give a talk (give a talk ya... not just attending one). He used to be gentle and takes the time to explain the works he's gonna do for me before he starts but now... he just gets on with it and boot me out of the room. At times, I have to ask him my progress and he'd say: "GOOD". And when I asked him how long more, he laughed and said "DUNNO". Sigh...
So this time round, when I went back, he let out a little sigh and said "Wire broke huh..." (fcuk la cos' I was supposed to go back earlier but HE rescheduled my appointment). Then proceeded to change the upper teeth wires, added strong rubber loops and removed the bite blocks. At the end of it when I asked him, he told me he's trying to reduce the curve of my jaw (whatever that means) and proceeded to ignore me. Like totally wtf man... I know he's busy la cos there were other patients outside; who were either nodding off, complaining on the phone about the slip of appointment time or watching TV but really lor, whatever happened to the dentist I used to know leh... It's like he has changed to a new person altogether! So sad!!!

New Found Interests
I have never been a football fan nor have I ever watched any matches from beginning till the end before this. To me, football is weird because for the life of me, I couldn't figure out the fun in watching 10 grown men behaving like kids (all the pulling and tugging coupled with dramatic acting) trying to chase after 1 ball. The only plus point that I could think of was watching sweaty, good-looking men, running around; in shorts... hehehe. But all these changed this year. I worked on a project at work that exposed to me some of the hottest players in WC that somewhat increased my awareness of football a little. The first match I watched was Germany vs. England that totally changed my perception of football.
Here in this game; the team spirit and dynamism was so apparent with the semi-known Germany players! It really goes to show that there's no limit as to what a team can achieve together when the so called underdog team beat the crap out of England with a 4-1! So what if England is a star-studded team cos' instead of playing the game as a team, England team members seemed more eager to display their own heroism for personal fame and glory!
This was supposed to be a longer post, but I procrastinated for so long that I now am "malas" to write about it anymore. Suffice to say that my Hb was very happy with my new found interest in football and was very eager to explain the rules of the game to me. With his explanation, I find it more and more interesting that I sacrificed my beauty sleep to watch the Finals of Spain vs. Netherlands! Slept only 2 hours and boy was I zombie-fied at work!!! And oh... Paul the Octopus was right once again!!! Cool dude I tell ya!

HIP - Dining Room
I've been neglecting this blog of mine because I think I'm bored with the design. Been hunting high and low for a nicer looking one but can't seemed to find any that I like. Enquired about a professional designed blog design and got the shock of my life that a basic one cost SGD$950!!!
So anyway, here's an update on our project; code named HIP (Home Improvement Plan) which Hb and I have been working on.
The latest addition to our home is the dining set from Monzio Italy; full marble piece in white including the base. For chairs, we chose 4 black-coloured chairs and 2-white ones for contrast.
The huge smiling Buddha photo was from Houz Depot... comes with the frame as well which coincidentally matches all our furniture colour. The shaggy black carpet was also from Houz Depot so that the chairs don't move around noisily. And so, our home now has a set of 3 colours at a glance: White, Black & Brown. :-)
We also changed the carpet in the living room to a shiny, furry carpet. Think the lighting made it looked black in this photo but in actual fact it is in shades of brown and is ultra soft!
Next to-do in our list is the guest toilet renovation... :-)

Resuming Braces
I finally found the courage to resume my braces treatment yesterday after 8 looooong months of removing them for my wedding last year. As expected, my dentist wasn't too happy with the delay and lectured me quite sternly. I was practically squirming guiltily in my seat without daring to utter a single word.
So anyway, this is my 21st visit to have my upper and lower braces fitted again after the looooong break. Think initially the dentist wanted to fit only the upper braces but in the end decided to do both at one go. Surprisingly, it didn't hurt as bad as I expected it to be. Sure, I was a little sore when I got up this morning... but it was nothing too unbearable... and THANK GOD for that...
However, since my upper jaw is larger than my lower jaw... with both upper & lower braces fitted, I will end up biting into the lower jaw braces and potentially bite off the wire... So... the dentist put 2 bite blocks (which is really a clump of hard clay) at my forth upper tooth (both left and right)... it was so near my front teeth that when I smile, it can be seen... and worst still... when I bite, there is this HUGE gap between my upper and lower jaw separated by this 2 clump of clays!!! In short, that meant that I cannot chew ANYTHING... and will either have to take porridge or bread with milo everyday for the next 6 months!!!
16-03-2008: $1,100 [Deposit, X-Rays, Photos & Moulding]
30-03-2008: $ 870 [Deposit & Upper Braces Fitting]

30-04-2009: $ 325 [Loose Bracket, Wires Change]
30-05-2009: $ 325 [Loose Bracket, Mini Wires Removal, Thicker Crisscrossed Wires]
04-07-2009: $ 325 [Loose Bracket, Springs Adjustment, 8-Ring Rubber Loops]
01-08-2009: $ 275 [Springs Adjustment, Additional Crisscross Wires, Rubber Loops]
22-08-2009: F.O.C [Springs Adjustment, Additional Crisscross Wires, Rubber Loops]
07-09-2009: $ 510 [X-Ray, Braces Removal, Scaling]
08-09-2009: $ 70 [Solubles for Retainer x 4 boxes + Plastic Case for Retainer]
26-05-2010: F.O.C [Upper & Lower Braces Fitting + 2 x Bite Blocks]
YTD Spent: $8,421.00
Come to think of it... I've actually completed my payment for the braces treatment... so if the dentist is calculative... he could've just ignored me... for all upcoming visits to tighten my braces will be F.O.C from now on... So ya... thank you dentist...

HIP - Living Room
HIP in progress...
We spent close to 3 weeks hunting for a brand new sofa. Initially, we thought that our requirement was pretty simple... All we wanted to get was a simple L-shaped, leather sofa... how hard would that be right?
Wrong!!!
Buying a sofa is like contemplating a marriage!!!
So many different things to think about!!!
But that wasn't the end of it. 10 minutes later, on our way home... we suddenly, collectively agreed that the 3-seater we paid a deposit for was way too short for our living room... and that we should have opted for the 4-seater instead... SO we found ourselves frantically calling the shop again to change the specs of the sofa from a 3-seater to a 4-seater one... (am certain the lady thinks we're both mad)... hahahaha...
Nevertheless, here's the L-shaped, leather sofa we now have at our weekend home... and OH... it has 2 special functionalities that helped us make up our minds... (1) Expandable seats - apart from the single "L" seat, all the rest of the 3 other seats are expandable so in actual fact... this is a 4-L sofa... hahaha... and (2) Adjustable headrest - the headrest can be adjusted to whichever angle one prefers...
Next HIP item... dining set... :D

Wrong!!!
Buying a sofa is like contemplating a marriage!!!
So many different things to think about!!!
- The type of leather (leatherbond, half leather, full leather, thick leather)
- Functionalities (expandable seats, reclining back, adjustable headrest)
- Leg materials (wood, metal, chrome, stainless steel)
- Number of seats (3-seater, 4-seater)
- Size of seats (8-feet, 9-feet, 10-feet in width)
- Brand name (obviously, the branded one will cost more la)

HIP - TV Area
I realized that I call my husband so many different names on this blog... first it was Alan... then OWLoon cos that's his nickname to Dee sometimes cos' that's what I call him and now Hb which stands for hubby... So from now onwards, think I will just address him as Hb lah... easier...
So anyway, Hb and I are on a Home Improvement Project (code named: HIP).
The last time we did that was prior to our wedding... the reburbishment of the entire master bedroom and attached toilet... where every single item was brand new from wall colours to built in wardrobe to furniture to electrical items... everything! But because we repainted the entire house and re-wired the whole place during the last HIP... this time round, our HIP involves only furniture hunting! But guess what??? HIP - Furniture is so much more FUN than HIP - Renovation!!! At least, there are WAY less mess to clean up... :D
So anyway, our HIP - Furniture project started with our living room where we started our hunt for sofa, TV rack, coffee table, lamps and wallpapers... It took us forever to decide and to agree on what to buy... that in the end, we found our TV sitting on the floor pathetically...
What happened was this... We asked the guard at our place if he'd be interested to have our old bulky 34 inch TV along with its TV rack... and he immediately said YES!!! But he was so happy that together with the gardener, they came and carried both the items away on the same day itself (actually, it was more like within 10 minutes of Hb asking him...)! So with the TV AND THE TV RACK gone, we had no choice but to force ourselves to relook at all our previous choices...
That day, we went to Klang and purchased 4 items... and luckily... managed to get them all delivered on the same day itself...!!! We bought a TV rack with a matching coffee table... and best of all, 2 lamps that we really liked... one standing lamp and the other one being a table lamp!
For sentimental purposes... here's how our old bulky TV and rack looks like... hehehe... Hb and I nearly d.i.e.d of exhaustion moving it to the side of our living room to make way for our flatscreen TV...!!!
The following day, we went to another outlet in PJ to place our deposit for the sofa... but unlike the outlet in Klang, delivery can only be made 10 working days later!!! So yala... that's a post on its own for some other day...
Oh and before I forget, since we are focussing on the living room first, we only added blinds to hide away the naked windows... in our kitchen... :)

Exclusive F.1 Experience
Aiyor, this is like super overdue... Was supposed to write about my experience at the M.a.l.a.y.s.i.a.n G.r.a.n.d P.r.i.x but ahem... C.h.i.n.e.s.e G.r.a.n.d P.r.i.x also over di! But nevermind la, better late than never...
To be honest... I don't watch F.1. and somehow, I find the "vroom vroom" sound... therapeutic! Say if I try watching it on TV... my eyelids will weigh heavier and heavier by the minute and I will most often doze off... BUT... BUT... 2 weeks ago... I had the chance to visit the S.e.p.a.n.g I.n.t.e.r.n.a.t.i.o.n.a.l C.i.r.c.u.i.t (S.I.C) for the 1st time in my life to watch the practice sessions and I must say that even for a non-fan like me... I found the experience totally amazing!
Here's an account on what happened...
We visited S.I.C on Thursday for a quick tour and meeting with the L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g team and thereafter... we were given a tour at L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g garage itself.... Here, we were given a quick explanation on how the team members communicate with one another like how they each have 2 sets of headsets which only dedicated personnel are allowed to talk to the drivers... the types of tyres... and of course... the L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g car itself... all in close proximity!!!
On our way out... I walked past a driver dressed in Red and for a split second, he was just next to me... I didn't know who he was but my colleagues were practically hyperventilating at the sight of this guy... cos you know why? He's F.e.r.n.a.n.d.o A.l.o.n.s.o from the F.e.r.r.a.r.i team!!! At the car park, while waiting for our driver (we were driven in our company's Alphard cos' there were limited parking passes), we saw yet another driver (or ex-driver)... but this time round, I knew who he was la... A.l.e.x. Y.o.o.n.g... haha...
The following day, we all gathered at our office lobby at ~8.30am where our company drivers picked us up. The entire experience was quite similar to those "rombongan sambil belajar" that I used to attend in primary school... hahaha... totally fun and exciting!!! At S.I.C, we made our way to the P.a.d.d.o.c.k C.l.u.b which is really the most exclusive viewing deck in S.I.C. The L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g P.a.d.d.o.c.k C.l.u.b was located just above the L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g garage and that meant that we have superb view of the car(s) coming in and out of the pit!
The P.a.d.d.o.c.k C.l.u.b faces the G.r.a.n.d S.t.a.n.d and offers superb view of other cars coming out of their pit:
The thing with this P.a.d.d.o.c.k C.l.u.b is that, it comes complete with buffet, free flow of wine / champagne, coffee, tea, snacks, ice creams etc served by super cute model-looking guys and gals (all "ang moh" btw). Next door, at the general hospitality area, there were even free foot massages, free photo taking, free snacks and lots of official merchandise (for sale)! Uber cool!
After the practice sessions, we met H.e.i.k.k.i K.o.v.a.l.a.i.n.e.n and F.a.i.r.u.z F.a.u.z.y of L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g... both were very friendly and accommodating to the numerous requests for photo taking. :-) Heck, I even met the T.e.a.m P.r.i.n.c.i.p.a.l, T.o.n.y F.e.r.n.a.n.d.e.s himself (btw, I absolutely love the way he tweets live from the p.i.t w.a.l.l during races!!!).
Then, it was time for the most awaited moment!!! The p.i.t l.a.n.e w.a.l.k!!! The p.i.t l.a.n.e is really the lane where cars drive into for their p.i.t s.t.o.p. And as part of the experience, we were given an hour to walk the p.i.t l.a.n.e where all the cars garage are located... Since we all wore the L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g tag, we were given access into the L.o.t.u.s R.a.c.i.n.g garage... and here we took numerous shots again... before continuing our walk down the pit lane...
Along the pit lane, we had the chance to see all the other teams' cars... F.e.r.r.a.r.i, M.c.L.a.r.r.e.n... you name it...
Surprisingly, when we passed R.e.d B.u.l.l's garage, the lady asked me and another colleague if we would like to enter their garage! We obviously said YES (much to the envy of those who weren't invited in... hahaha)!!! Think it was because of their generosity in allowing us in, S.e.b.a.s.t.i.a.n V.e.t.t.e.l and M.a.r.k W.e.b.b.e.r (both from the R.e.d.b.u.l.l team) won 1st and 2nd place! Kakakaka...
All in all, the experience was truly amazing and I had the time of my life! :D

Anniversary Celebration
Hmmm... so many things happened in the past few weeks... and I have tonnes to update on this blog... like how we spent our 13th anniversary together... how I had the most exclusive weekend at the F.1. race in S.e.p.a.n.g... how we went furniture shopping like mad... and a whole load more... so let's see... shall start with our anniversary dinner...
We met 13 years ago on March 17... and this will be the first year we celebrate our anniversary as a married couple. Instead of having romantic dinner outside... my hubby suggested that he cook me a nice meal... It came as a surprise to me on several levels... First was... "Awwww... he remembered!!!" and then followed by... "Awwww... so sweet...(considering that yours truly can't cook for nuts)...". But then after that... it just seemed way too troublesome to cook... and hence, I suggested we do steamboat at home instead...
Prior to us buying anything... we went and got all the condiments first... and ended up with so many varieties that it occupied half of our kitchen cabinet...
And then... we bought fresh vege from Cold Storage... not just one type but 4 to 5 different types... cos' we can't figure out which type we like... hahahaha... My hubby also went and collect the fresh mantis prawns he ordered from the fisherman along with some other seafood... My in laws also bought us food cos they were worried that we won't know how to select fresh seafood... Little did they know... we have already purchased a whole load of other seafood!!! The photo on the bottom right only shows a fraction of what we had...
When my hubby went and collect some of the stuffs that my in laws bought that evening, they casually mentioned... "You all eat first la... we will come later..." O_o... But but... it was meant to be our romantic dinner at home!!! Nevertheless, we didn't have the heart to say no to them... so at 7-ish... we all had our "anniversary" dinner together... :-)
After they left... we were still left with lotssssssssss of food... so we called our friend; Jackson to join us... while my hubby and I proceeded with our 2nd round... After our 3rd round... we both were so stuffed that we felt like puking... Still... there were leftovers... enough to feed another 6pax!!! In the end, I called my parents and told them that we'd be having steamboat the following night... hahahaha...
So that was how we celebrated our 13th anniversary... stuffed ourselves silly!!! :-)

Crazy Auntie
Attended M.o.b.i.l.e Y.o.u.t.h yesterday and one of the biggest highlights was meeting Timothy Tiah in person:
It was kinda funny and I think Tim must have thought I'm a mad auntie stalking him... The moment he stepped in, I was so eager to go up to him and say hello... but each time I looked at him, he was always surrounded by a group of people... In the end... before I left... I walked up to him, tapped his shoulder and said: "Hi!!! You must be Timothy Tiah... I read your blog!".
Although this was the first time I met him in person, I felt as if I've known him for ages... thanks to his blog and Twitter... so imagine my excitement when I get to see him in person... He casually asked if I own a blog to which I responded by saying I do but is still in the midst of contemplating whether I should actively promote it or keep it low key as it is now...
I must say... he is a friendly guy who is quick to strike up conversations... (either that or he's used to excited strangers approaching him). He told me a story about his friend who wrote about a poll being manipulated by the "g.o.v.t"... and overnight his blog became popular. All was fine and dandy but I think I was a bit flabbergasted during the conversation... cos I dumbly said "Why?" when he told me the story about the unusual spike trend...Come to think of it... it was obvious that it was manipulated... but I had do dumbly say "Why?". Oh well... there goes his first impression of this weird auntie...

That day, I excitedly posted a tweet on how I met him in person... and surprise, surprise... he REPLIED!!!
So ya... he definitely made my day... cos' I've always admired his courage and determination to venture out on his own despite his age... (btw, he looks younger in person than in photos)... So you see... never underestimate the power of bloggers... cos' this young dude made me feel nervous and excited at the same time... just like the feeling of meeting A.v.r.i.l L.a.v.i.g.n.e, G.w.e.n S.t.e.f.a.n.i, S.e.a.n K.i.n.g.s.t.o.n etc etc in person... weird but true... :-)

Crickets
The following conversation took place yesterday night while we were in bed getting ready to zzz...
"maemee": The crickets are singing outside...
OWLoon: Got meh?
We both listened carefully for the next 5 seconds and true enough, the crickets were having a 'concert'.
5min later...
"maemee": Please could you kindly go outside...
OWLoon: What for?
.
.
.
.
.
"maemee": Kill those blardy crickets!!!

F.O.C Pre-CNY Dinner
The last time we celebrated pre-CNY / "Sau Kung" lunch on our own was back in year 2008. So this year... we all agreed that it's good to celebrate the end of the year and an early welcome for the upcoming CNY...
We went to our favourite joint... Ah Yat Abalone Restaurant in Avenue K... The last time we were there, we ordered the RM78++ per pax menu... but this time round... my colleagues picked the RM188++ per pax menu!!!
This is how our food looks like... single serving per person... but OK-lah, definitely better than the menu we ordered 2 years ago with sharks fin & scallop soup, bigger abalone and sea cucumber, super-duper-yummy cod fish, so-so seafood noodle and a yummy-licious dessert; honeydew sago...
Within our little group of 3, it was an unspoken rule that whoever gets his / her promotion "chiahs" the rest... and since I got mine mid of last year, I had already "chiah-ed" them... This time round, one of us just got her promotion and she kindly offered to subsidize half the bill... but then another colleague was also roped in to foot the bill cos' he conveniently forgot about our lunch appointment and went ahead to date his boss... causing us major "disappointment" (OK-lah, we exaggerated!). Nevertheless, he offered to foot half the bill and we all happily said OK!!!
Nett nett... I had FREE dinner that night... kekekeke... Life is indeed beautiful...

2009 Resolutions Closure
Back in 2009, my resolutions were pretty simple. Now that we're in 2010, thought I should revisit my resolutions and have a closure on them...
Be a Good Wife
>> Learn how to cook...
Up till now... I still don't know how to cook... BUT... I've attempted to be more domesticated and I think I have done a fairly good job in keeping our weekend home clean, comfortable and cozy... so CHECK!!!
>> Spend more time with OWLoon...
I took one whole month off work to spend time with OWLoon after our marriage... and have since spent every possible weekend in KS with him... so ya... CHECK!!!
Be an Even More Fillial Daughter
>> Take on more responsibilities...
My FB status today says: "Gazed into the crystal ball and foresee myself eating bread for a long, long time... Donations of any forms are most welcomed!!! Ang pow mari!!!" So ya... I have been spending a lot on CNY preparations... and have also upped my monthly contributions to the household... so again... CHECK!!!
>> Spend more time with my parents...
Considered CHECK... cos' for our pre-honeymoon, we took my parents along!!! Hahaha... but definitely, more rooms for improvements... have yet to figure out the balancing formula between family and hubby...
Be a Better Person
>> Increase savings...
Yes... I did increase my savings... but I also spent a bomb on vanity stuff for my wedding... on all the extras that are not covered by OWLoon like facial packages, manicure and pedicure and a whole long list of etc etc... so hmmm... must INCREASE EVEN MORE... so nope... FAIL!
>> Decrease impulse spending...
This I have been very good... I didn't spend on anything unnecessary the entire year. Though I was yearning for a new branded bag... a new camera.... a new pair of diamond earrings... I managed to refrain myself... (BRAVO BRAVO)... so yes... CHECK!!!
>> Be a HAPPY person...
2009 was definitely a character building year... and I must say that as I was going through the year... I thought that it was one of the toughest years in my life... but remember the saying... "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"? It was definitely true in my case... I learnt to be at peace with myself... to appreciate the good things in life... and to consciously force myself to turn negative thoughts into positive ones... Think my optimism paid off, for I am so much more happier now than before... so CHECK!!!
So let's see... nett nett I scored a 6 out of 7 CHECKS... and that meant a success rate of over 85%!!! Not bad la... hehehehehe... :-)

Being Married Part II
So back to the question: "How's married life?"
I have quite a number of answers running in my head... but then I figured no one will have the patience to hear me talk about it in great length... hence, I shall blog about it here... Married life is COOL for I gained a lot a lot a lot... and here's the list of my TOP 10 GAINS after marriage:
Number ONE
A piece of paper that ended my singlehood...
Number TWO
A collection of albums that will forever have a space in the dark corner of my chest drawers... all the way back in Kuala Selangor...
Number THREE
A whole load of 'ang ang' props that I don't know what to do with... red Chinese paper cut tea set with matching bowls, plates, spoons and chopsticks... baby bath basin, mug, cup... a basket with a rooster and hen... etc etc...
Number FOUR
A beautiful solitaire engagement diamond ring and a diamond studded wedding band along with a handsome amount worth of gold jewelery...
Number FIVE
A free weekend home in Kuala Selangor. The place is owned by OWLoon but what's his is mine and what's mine is mine... kekeke...
Number SIX
An "R" to my title... MRS... no longer MS...
Number SEVEN
A gown that will forever occupy a forgotten corner in my wardrobe...
Number EIGHT
An ATM that runs 24 x 7... I wish it's like the photo below... muahahaha...
Number NINE
A bed mate that keeps the bed warm... I reckon 2 warm bodies emit more heat than 1... hehehe...
Number TEN
And most importantly, a sweet closure to our 12 years of courtship... and hopefully a wonderful beginning to the many many many years ahead with my first love... my soulmate... my companion... my husband... the one and only that I proclaim as mine!

Being Married Part I
We spent an entire month together, living in our weekend home in Kuala Selangor where it was just the 2 of us... When I went back to work... the no.1 question that I was asked was of course: "How's married life?"
To me... married life is different... and kinda funny...
Bedroom Horror
We both have not had the experience of staying together over a long period of time prior to us getting married. At most, 10 days when we go on trips or holidays... So the first thing that we needed to adjust ourselves to... was our sleeping positions, patterns and habits...
OWLoon said he was terrified of falling off the bed cos' I have a habit of sleeping in the middle of the bed... and hogging all the blanket too... But I too was terrified... of him punching me in my nose or kicking me in my ass whenever he stretches his arms or flexes his legs in his semi-conscious state!
Open Sex "Discussions"
If there's one thing that embarasses the hell out of us would be family members and "concerned" relatives openly asking us to f*ck more to make babies... or f*ck without protections and leave it to fate... Each time they mention it... we just smile and keep quiet cos' honestly... what sort of answers do they expect from us? If we say we're trying... then wouldn't that leave them with a visual image of us fornicating? If we say, we want to wait first... they'll go into their M16-mode lecture on the 1,001 reasons as to why we should f*ck NOW and f*ck furious (without protections).
So ya... being married is definitely awkward... considering that our sex life is publicly discussed wherever (at home, at restaurants etc) and whenever (over a cup of tea, over dinner, while watching TV etc)... No warning... just BOOM!!! "Are you guys busy making babies?"
Being Domesticated
Since we have the whole house to ourselves... we had to sweep, vacuum, mop, disinfect and practically do whatever it takes to keep our home clean... EVERY OTHER DAY!!! But us being LAZY adults... we never had to do any of those chores at home... so needless to say... it was pretty damn hard...
Like how I spent ages sweeping only to discover that Mr. Vacuum does the job faster and more efficiently... Or how OWLoon spent hours handling pleat curtains before stumbling on the secret formula to the spacing required between hooks...
It was tiring... and back breaking... but we made it a point to compliment each other's efforts... and that alone... made it all worthwhile and satisfying...
To be continued...

ROI
Just the other day, I received an unsolicited mail from a real estate agent who claimed to specialize in the area where my place is located... and that he knows I'm one of the owners with a unit there... Hence, along with the mail, was his name card... which I should apparently keep so that I can call him whenever I feel like selling my place... It all sounded pretty professional until I read his card... his name is King Kong O_o...
To be honest, I could hardly believe what I was hearing... cos at RM250k... it's a whopping 30% increase from the price I paid and best of all, the development is only at best 80% completed...
So anyway, I politely declined by saying that I'd think about it... and went online to google the prices of KA... Surprise, surprise... the market rate is indeed RM250k!!! So that means... it has indeed increased by over 30%!!!
So anyway... the following day... I got an unsolicited call 'pulak'... and this time round, it was a lady... from another realty... Same thing... knows that I'm an owner of KA... and that she has a serious buyer who is willing to pay RM250k for the place! If I'm ok to sell, she could immediately draft out the contracts!

So the big question is of course... do I sell it now and use the so-called return of my investment as downpayment for a bigger place? Btw, current unit's a service residence at 935sqf only... Or should we wait a few more years when OWLoon and I have our own little family unit before settling down in a bigger nest? Hmmm...
